The 3 people who are changing my life
The 3 people I’m about to introduce you to are changing my life. And please believe me when I say, this is not something that I announce readily. But as I’ve been struggling to find my way again, after having a baby and realising the door is closing on my business as it used to be, the introduction of these incredible people into my world has been a more-than-welcome experience, and I just knew I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t now introduce them to you as well.
My entire life, I have struggled to stay focused and organised. I have never been able to commit to a project for long enough, or organise my day-to-day life (which is bad when your propensity for procrastination is verrrrrry high). And even more so lately, my motivation to continue forward has been at an all-time low. I am someone who defines a great portion of my identity on what my heart and passion is connected to, and without knowing what my next move is in my life, I’ve been floating in a mist of doubt, unable to find ground to stand on.
I’ve tried many times over the years to change these bad ways. I’ve tried to quit sugar, exercise more, keep a journal, keep my wardrobe tidy, be in control of my finances, stick to a project all the way through without getting distracted, but nothing has ever stuck. I honestly believed I was unteachable, incapable of changing, incapable of fulfilling my potential. And while I’m certainly not old, the fact is I’m no longer 21, and life is passing me by while I scroll on social media wishing I had what other people have.
A couple of months ago, however, something shifted. Be it divine intervention, fate, or simply a moment of upbeat coincidence, but I stumbled upon three people in very quick succession, who have begun to teach me how to reset my mindset, my habits, and in turn, my direction in life.
So if you feel anything the way I do; if you feel lost, unmotivated, struggling to organise yourself and your life, or needing to make a change in your business or your dream, I hope these AMAZING people can help you too. Welcome to my (unknowing!) dream team of Getting Back On Track.
JAMES CLEAR: author of ‘Atomic Habits’
It started here, with James’ book, ‘Atomic Habits’. For the first time in my life, I’ve understood a new way to approach how I do life. Learning how to change my mindset and actually achieve a new way of thinking, feeling and doing that lasts longer than a few days or weeks, this book just blew my mind. It’s full of clear, concise and understandable information about how we form both good and bad habits, and builds a framework for how we can create better habits moving forward. Because of this book, I have been able to work on changing my mindset around how I approach everything in my life, including going to the gym and exercising- where before I was feeling defeated because I don’t look the way I want to, and results aren’t showing up instantly, I’m now focusing on simply being someone who doesn’t miss a workout (and results become a bonus!). I haven’t missed a single day since I started.
I came across Steph on Instagram around the same time that I started reading James’ book, and it sounds totally corny, but I feel like it was fate that I found her. I have always struggled with keeping myself in check. I can write a thousand to-do lists, but they get left by the wayside, or I just transfer tasks from one to the next. I carry most tasks in my head- which time and time again has proven to not be reliable, because I just can’t keep up with everything, and so I find myself frustrated because I’m just not achieving. Steph has made a name for herself being the absolute queen of home organisation, and again, I know it sounds corny, but she has helped me realise that it is ‘cool’ to be organised, and that I can do it amongst everything else that’s going on. Plus, her upcoming release of her planner is coming at just the right time for me- with some huge changes happening in my life as of next year, the timing is perfect, and she is going to be a huge influence for me as I work to keep on track with being a more organised person.
JENNA KUTCHER: creator of the ‘Goal Digger Podcast’
My dear girlfriend mentioned the Goal Digger podcast in passing one day- actually, specifically the episode with Claire Baker about how to live in sync with your menstrual cycle (girls, SO worth listening to!)- because I was in an emotionally bad place, and couldn’t work out why I kept peaking up and down all the time. I’ve tried listening to podcasts in the past, but to be honest, they bore the socks off me. I just can’t focus on someone jabbering in my ears, especially if I have other things to do, it just doesn’t captivate me enough. Enter Jenna, and finally I’ve found someone that I can not only listen to, but is changing my view on myself as a business woman, and also just as a woman in my own power. Listening to her and her guests talk about how they’ve built what they love just empowers me in ways I can’t put into words. I now listen to her every single day while I’m at the gym, and let me tell you, I have plans. Big plans.
I can’t impress enough how much these three people are impacting my life. I am looking at my future with new eyes, new belief, and new energy, and I’m so very grateful that I’m able to ‘lean’ on the generosity of the wisdom that each of these people have shared. I hope that you might find inspiration from them too.
